At A2 candidates are required to gain greater depth and build upon the knowledge, understanding and skills gained at AS level.

Unit 3: Personal Investigation (Coursework)

25% of total A level marks

Candidates develop work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their choice.  This should include written material of a critical, analytical nature (1,000-3,000 words) which is linked to the practical work.  The assessment objective is to record in visual terms (and/or other forms) observations, insights and ideas relevant to their intentions, demonstrating an ability to reflect upon their work and progress.

Unit 4:  Externally-Set Assignment (Exam)
25% of total A level marks
                                                                 Candidates receive a choice of exciting starting points and must produce a clearly defined selection of work which will lead to a finished piece(s). The assessment objective is to present a personal, informed and meaningful response demonstrating critical understanding, realising intentions, and, where appropriate, making connections between visual, written or other elements.
