At AS level candidates are introduced to a variety of experiences employing a range of media, processes and techniques.

Unit 1: Portfolio (Coursework)
50% of total AS marks
25% of total A2 marks

Students submit a selection of thoughtfully presented work that  demonstrates the depth and breadth of the course. There should be at least one extended collection of work or project which is based on an idea, concept, theme or issue.

The assessment objective is to develop ideas through sustained and focussed investigations, informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

Unit 2: Externally set assignment (Exam)
50% of total AS marks
25% of total A2 marks

The students get a choice of exciting starting points and the work can take any appropriate form.  The candidates may produce preparatory work and finished piece(s) or wholly developmental work.  The assessment objective requires that students should experiment with and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining their ideas as their work develops.
